Biden’s administration is encouraging families to apply for this resource that now has double the funds.
Si mes a mes estás haciendo malabares para poder pagar la luz, you should know there’s still help available.
The Biden administration has allocated nearly $8 billion in national funding to the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), more than doubling the program’s anual funding, thanks to an additional $4.5 billion provided by the American Rescue Plan.
The state of Florida alone has $176 million available in LIHEAP funding for the 2022 fiscal year.
In addition, the White House has called on utility companies to prevent utility shut-offs and help expedite the delivery of federal aid. It has already welcomed commitments from 14 major utility companies across the country.
Households in need of aid with their energy bills can find resources in their area at EnergyHelp.us or by calling the National Energy Assistance Referral hotline at 1-866-674-6327.
The LIHEAP can also help beneficiaries improve the energy efficiency of their home through the Weatherization Assistance Program, which can help with the reduction of energy bills in the future.
Along with electric bill assistance, there is also help for those who are behind on rent through the Emergency Rental Assistance Program. You can find more information about that program HERE.
