Music and images of the island that show the landscapes and culture will be woven into the story of a young Puerto Rican woman who lives in New York, and who, when Christmas comes, decides to travel to the Island.
Puerto Ricans living outside the island will play an important role in this year’s Banco Popular special.
As every year, the banking institution will premiere the special on Sunday after Thanksgiving.
“What unites us” is the name of this year’s production, which will invite the diaspora to return to the island to celebrate Christmas, which is the longest in the world.
Music and images of the island that show the landscapes and culture will be woven into the story of a young Puerto Rican woman who lives in New York, and who, when Christmas comes, decides to travel to the Island. The song in that scene is performed by singer and actress Ana Isabelle, who for years lived in Miami and the Big Apple.
The young woman’s opportunity to spend Christmas on the island, with family and friends, shows her encounter with the island’s customs, music, gastronomy and other traditions.
“Family is central to our culture and that is something that is treasured and highly respected. It is precisely through our family environment that we begin to learn important facts such as music, social customs, among other things. We wanted to highlight that part of us that makes us so special because we are a small island, but with a big heart. Here, talent is exported to the world and that fills us with pride. This initiative, beyond its musical value, reflects the social and cultural responsibility that Popular has assumed, contributing significantly to the promotion, conservation and evolution of Puerto Rican music,” said Patricia de la Torre, first vice president of the Corporate Communications Division of Popular, in a statement.
The island’s landscapes are seen from above. The songs are performed by artists such as Pedro Capó, Danny Rivera, Charlie Aponte, Melina León, Ana Isabelle, Wisin, Gale, Daymé Arocena, Julio César Sanabria, Chuwi, Los Rivera Destino, Chabela, Son del Batey, Andrea Cruz, Miley Burgos, Brendaly Rivera, Ángel «Papote» Alvarado and the Esencia Group and Moncho Rivera, among others.
The special will be broadcast on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 8 p.m. on the island’s main television channels and will also be available on the popular.com website for 24 hours.
