Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody argued that she and Gov. Ron DeSantis are exempt from a state law prohibiting officials from using their authority to interfere with an election, and have a right to use their power to try and defeat Amendment 4.

These legislators have consistently voted to take away a woman’s right to body autonomy. Some are quietly working to defeat the grassroots referendum that would overturn Gov. DeSantis’ six-week abortion ban and enshrine abortion rights in the state Constitution. 

The DeSantis administration’s investigation of signatures that were previously deemed valid “is what state-authorized election interference looks like,” say pro-choice activists. 

Advocates of the citizen-led initiative are calling out the Republican-led government’s effort to attack Amendment 4 as yet another example of the state’s attempts to mislead voters.

The 6-week abortion ban that went into effect in Florida in May has endangered women with at-risk pregnancies or health issues. And no one is more impacted than Latinas, pro-choice advocates say.

As reproductive rights advocates continue to rally to enshrine the right to abortion in Florida’s Constitution, anti-abortion groups are fighting the passage of the amendment in November.
